Strategy, people systems, and organisational design for civil society organisations across Nigeria and the continent.
Who We Are
The Capability Practice is an advisory firm dedicated to strengthening the organisations that drive social change across Nigeria and the African continent. We work with advocacy organisations, human rights groups, and mission-driven institutions to sharpen their strategy, build equitable people systems, and design structures that let leadership focus on impact rather than internal friction.
"We build from your unique context outward. We begin by understanding your organisation — its culture, history, and environment. Only then do we recommend a path forward."
What We Do
Every engagement we take on strengthens an organisation's ability to deliver on its mission. Our work spans three interconnected practice areas.
We help leaders clarify vision, define their ecosystem role, and build strategic plans that staff believe in, funders trust, and boards can govern. Whether you are entering a new strategic cycle, responding to a changing funding landscape, or repositioning for greater impact, we co-create strategies grounded in your reality.
From talent policies to equity frameworks, we design people systems that enable organisations to attract, develop, and retain the talent their mission needs. We embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into the fabric of how organisations recruit, manage performance, and reward their people.
We strengthen the organisational backbone: workflows, reporting structures, and governance so leadership focuses on impact rather than internal friction. We design fit-for-purpose structures that clarify roles, distribute workload equitably, and embed accountability at every level.
Our Approach
We are not the kind of consultants who arrive with pre-built frameworks and expect your organisation to adapt. Our approach is deliberately the other way around.
We begin by understanding your organisation — its culture, history, and environment. Only then do we recommend a path forward.
We work alongside your leadership team, not above it. Solutions are developed so your team owns and can carry them forward.
Our goal is to leave every organisation stronger than we found it. Your team sustains the work long after our engagement ends.
"Africa's civil society organisations are doing some of the most important work on the continent. They deserve internal systems as strong as the missions they pursue."
